About InsuranceCalc UK
Who we are
InsuranceCalc UK is built and maintained by Quicksolve Digital Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17385486). We build free online calculators and tools that help people understand what things cost before they commit to buying.
We're a small team of developers and researchers. We don't sell insurance. We don't take commission from insurers. We don't get paid when you click through to a comparison site. Our revenue comes from display advertising (Google AdSense) shown alongside our tools and guides. That's it.
What our calculators do
Our pet insurance estimator and EV vs petrol comparison tool produce cost estimates based on published market data. They take your inputs (breed, age, location, vehicle type, insurance group, etc.) and apply pricing models derived from real insurer data to give you an approximate monthly or annual cost.
These estimates are starting points, not quotes. They won't match any specific insurer's price exactly. Every insurer weighs risk factors slightly differently, uses different claims data, and applies their own profit margins. But our estimates put you in the right ballpark, typically within 10-15% of what you'll actually be quoted.
The point is to help you understand what drives the cost before you start comparing policies. If you know that your breed is expensive to insure, or that your postcode adds 15% to the average, you're less likely to be shocked by the first quote you see.
Our methodology
Our pricing models are built from multiple data sources, cross-referenced to produce estimates that reflect the actual market.
For pet insurance, we use breed-specific claims data published by the ABI, average premium data from Defaqto's product ratings, and pricing information published by the 15 largest UK pet insurers. We weight factors based on their known impact: breed accounts for roughly 40% of price variation, age for 30%, location for 15%, and cover type for 15%.
For car insurance, we use ABI quarterly market statistics, FCA general insurance market study data, and insurance group ratings from Thatcham Research. Our model factors in insurance group, driver age, no-claims discount, annual mileage, and fuel type.
We update our models quarterly when new ABI market data is published. The current figures reflect Q2 2026 data. Between updates, we monitor major market shifts (regulatory changes, significant insurer pricing moves) and adjust if necessary.
Data sources
- Association of British Insurers (ABI): market-level statistics on premiums, claims frequency, and claims costs by category
- Defaqto: product ratings and feature comparisons across UK pet insurance products
- Thatcham Research: vehicle insurance group ratings for all cars sold in the UK
- FCA General Insurance Market Study: regulatory data on pricing practices and market averages
- Published insurer pricing: we collect publicly available pricing information from insurer websites and product pages
- IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry): data on EV technician qualifications and garage certification numbers
What we are not
We are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). We don't provide financial advice. We don't recommend specific products or insurers. Our estimates are illustrative; they show you roughly what something costs, not what it will cost you specifically.
We are not a price comparison site. We don't connect you with insurers or generate personalised quotes. If you want an actual quote, you'll need to use a comparison site (like GoCompare, Compare the Market, or Confused.com) or contact insurers directly.
We are not affiliated with any insurer. When we mention specific insurers by name in our guides, it's for informational purposes only. We don't receive payment or preferential treatment from any insurance company.
Accuracy and limitations
Our estimates are based on market averages and published data. They have limitations you should be aware of:
They don't account for your specific claims history, credit score, or lifestyle factors that individual insurers might consider. They don't reflect promotional pricing or short-term discounts that insurers run. They may lag behind sudden market changes (a major insurer pulling out of a segment, a regulatory change affecting pricing).
We aim for estimates within 10-15% of actual quoted prices for the majority of users. For edge cases (very young drivers, very high-risk breeds, unusual combinations of factors), the margin of error may be larger.
If something looks wrong or outdated, please let us know. We review all feedback and correct errors promptly.
